The History Behind Koehnen’s Interiors
Deep roots in Hilo

F. Koehnen, Ltd., the parent company, was started on May 13, 1929. F.W. Koehnen, a German immigrant, purchased the assets of Hill Optical and Jewelry Company from W.H. Hill. The emphasis was immediately changed from a predominate optical shop, to a retail showroom specializing in jewelry and giftware, which included: china, silver, and crystal. The furniture department was created in 1947 by Mr. Koehnen’s son-in-law, Carl E. Rohner. Originally, in leased premises, the firm acquired its present building in 1957. Koehnen’s Inc., which conducts business as Koehnen’s Interiors, was incorporated in 1968 to assume all retailing functions, while F. Koehnen, Ltd, was assigned all realty in which Koehnen’s Interiors operates, as well as other commercial real estate. The jewelry division was eliminated in 1979, with the vision of retail operations fully devoted to home furnishings and accessories

Our mission
Commitment to our customers

The company, throughout its history, has placed a strong emphasis on providing quality merchandise and offering a high level of customer service. The firm does not seek to compete on a mass merchandising level or a price discounting basis. Instead, we desire to provide merchandise at a fair price and provide optimum attention to the needs of our clientele. Our customers are our most valued possession, for without them, this firm would not exist.
